Logic Pro 11.1 Crashes During Preset Check of Hex FX

Greets:
I decided to give Hex FX a try. I'm going through presets, or starting to, when I hit one and Logic crashes. I did it two more times with the same results, but I'm sure not with the same preset.

Does Hex FX want a bigger buffer size to work with? I am able to veto set the buffer size very low to use with my RME interface on my Apple silicon Mac, and crashes are rare. I have recently tried out an effects plugin that's apparently very CPU heavy and not yet optimized for Apple silicon, but a heavy preset caused crackling noises and I was informed it needs a larger buffer size in the interim.

What say you? Thanks.

Hey Velanche,

I would try increasing your buffer size just to see if it helps - although Hex FX isn't particularly CPU intensive and I can't really see that being the cause of a crash. But give it a go first.

If it still happens can i ask you to start a Help Request (support.serato.com) so that we can troubleshoot a little further and potentially grab a log report from you.

Cheers,
Logan.

Hey Velanche,

We just wanted to know if you are usign a class compliant driver?
Also is there any possibility you could test Hex FX in another DAW with the same settings you are using for Logic?

Cheers

Yes, increasing the buffer size might help, especially if Hex FX is CPU-intensive or not fully optimized for Apple Silicon. Try raising the buffer size in Logic and see if it stabilizes. Also, check if Hex FX has an update or if running Logic in Rosetta mode improves compatibility. If crashes persist, monitoring CPU usage while loading presets could reveal if it's a resource issue.

I encountered a similar issue as well. The HEX FX plugin was causing my Logic Pro (version 11.1.1) projects to crash whenever in use. In December 2024, I obtained a copy of HEX FX and contacted the Serato Support team, but they were unable to provide any effective solutions to resolve the problem, so I ended up voiding my license code and received a refund for the plugin purchase.

Today, I discovered this thread and sought to determine if changing the buffer size would resolve the issue. This suggestion was not recommended when I initially reached out to the support team back in January 2025, and they were unable to identify the root cause of the problem.

So just out of curiosity, I initiated a trial version of the plugin today to assess its impact, but it did not yield any positive results. The plugin is visually appealing and offers an engaging UI. I am hopeful that the Serato team will release a software update soon to address this issue. I would love to purchase the plugin again once a new update is available and it functions correctly within Logic Pro.

Based on the crash report, it appears that Serato’s HEX FX plugin is causing Logic Pro to crash due to an Audio Unit (AUv3) related error. The error originates within AudioToolboxCore, specifically in the AUv3InstanceBase::GetProperty function. This indicates that HEX FX may be attempting to access an invalid memory address when retrieving an audio unit property according to ChatGPT when I submitted my report.
