Feature Request: Preparation List Behavior Options

udi 8:22 AM - 3 November, 2025
This is a very important feature which already exists in other DJ softwares.
Please add the option for users to decide:

1. If a track should be automatically removed from the Preparation list after it is loaded to a deck.

2. If the Preparation list should be cleared on exit, or if it should remain saved for the next session.

These 2 behavior settings are extremely useful for live workflow and set preparation, especially for DJs who use the Preparation list as an active live “shortlist” during sets.

Can you explain how you use the preparation list to understand the sence of your suggestions?

I think it's quite self-explanatory, but I will explain:
When I go through my crates before or during a set and see a track I might want to play soon, I press CMD+P and add it to the Preparation list.
This is similar to the vinyl / CD days where DJs would put a record aside for fast access.
These two requested behavior options would be extremely useful because:

You can pre-build a short queue while browsing crates.

If the software crashes, you won’t lose your preparation list automatically.

You can save the preparation list for future use. For example: you built a Hip Hop preparation list and didn’t use all the tracks. Later you can move those leftovers into a dedicated crate. Currently, if you forget to save manually before exit, the list gets deleted. A checkbox to not clear it on exit would solve this.

For the “remove after load” part: sometimes you load a track just to check if it fits the current vibe, or change your mind last second. In those cases it’s better to keep it in the Preparation list and manually remove only the tracks you actually played.
Also for comparison:

Traktor: removal is manual + Preparation list does not get deleted on exit.

Rekordbox: offers 2 checkboxes for exactly these 2 behaviors inside the Tag List.

CDJ/XDJ: same concept exists as Tag List.

This workflow already exists in multiple major DJ platforms. It would be great if Serato offered the same flexibility.

I see.

Getting more features is always great.

Now I understand you.

Preparation list is for throwing the following songs in a live set. For this reason as soon as you play a song it disappears.

You can get almost what you are asking for the preparation playlist with a smart crate.
Here is how: smart crates are based in metadata, so If you use a special an unique code like for example "s0s0s" & you paste this data always in the same field (I suggest to use a data field you actually do not use like grouping or label) & you have a smart crate with the rule "field? - contains - s0s0s" you will have the playlist you wish.

Cheers.

Man
what?
your suggestion doesn't makes any sense and I'm not looking for a workaround but a change of behavior.
anyways in 4.0.0 beta apparently the feature that prepare list songs remains on exit.

If you want serato follow your suggestion you should suggest in a dedicated suggestion discussion not in other suggestion discussion made for another purpose.
