In previous versions of Serato DJ, there was a “Protect Library” checkbox option that prevented accidental track deletions from the library. This feature appears to be missing in the 4.0 update. I’d like to see this protective feature restored, ideally in the Preferences/Settings menu where similar safety options are typically located.
Why This Feature Is Important:
During live performances, I frequently use Command-F (Ctrl-F on Windows) to quickly search for tracks. In the heat of the moment while DJing, it’s easy to accidentally hit Command-Backspace instead, which can delete tracks from the library without warning.
When you’re focused on reading the crowd, beatmatching, and keeping energy flowing, these accidental keystrokes happen more often than you’d expect. The “Protect Library” feature provided essential safeguarding against these unintended deletions during high-pressure moments.
How I’d Use It:
I would enable this option before every gig as part of my setup routine. It would stay active throughout my performance, giving me confidence that my library remains intact even if I make typing errors while quickly searching for tracks. This is particularly crucial during back-to-back DJ sets or long performances where fatigue can lead to more mistakes.
Request:
Could this feature be restored in a future update? Even a simple toggle in Preferences would be incredibly valuable for protecting our carefully curated libraries during live performances.
Thank you for considering this request and for the excellent 4.0 update overall!
