Serato DJ Pro General Discussion

Talk about Serato DJ Pro, expansion packs and supported hardware

MacOS and Pioneer DDJ-SZ2

DJ KS1 4:40 PM - 6 December, 2025
I had to restore my MacBook )Intel based) back to factory settings due to downloading Tahoe after experiencing not being able to record my mixes in the software.

So I would like to know which Mac operating system should I download for compatibility and also what pioneer firmware I should I download.

Note: prior to upgrading Tahoe I was using Sequoia, which worked fine, but I never downloaded Pioneer DDJ SZ2 firmware. Should I download the firmware also?

What was you last macOS? Also what Mac hardware do you have?
Raffy G 4:44 PM - 6 December, 2025
According to Pioneer DJ:

Mac OS
macOS Ventura 13 (Intel® Core™ Processor / Apple M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2 chip)
(updated to the latest version)
macOS Monterey 12 (Intel® Core™ Processor / Apple M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2 chip)
(updated to the latest version)
macOS Big Sur 11 (Intel® Core™ Processor / Apple M1 chip)
(updated to the latest version)

ver. 4.0.3 Update
[FIXED]

macOS Sonoma support

Hope this helps.

It was Tahoe prior before that it was Sequoia.

I had to wipe my Mac clean and now I’m using Catalina.

I’m using a Mac Pro Intel (2019). If that helps.

Kinda does. According to the list does this means in order for my hardware to work or be compatible I should only download and operate Sonoma or Big Sur?

Basically Yes. BUT also both Serato Dj Pro 3.3.5 and 4.0.1 work with Sonoma which according to Pioneer is supported with ver.403 of SZ2 drivers for macOS as pointed above.

Hopefully Pioneer will release an update to their drivers for DDJ-SZ2 to work with Tahoe.

So why not use Sequoia or even Sonoma which are compatible with SZ2 drivers. just my opinion.

If your Mac supports Sequoia, use it. Don't upgrade to Tahoe as it's a heavier system and has bugs with older controllers.

Catalina has already been discontinued by Apple. Stick with macOS Sequoia.

Use a USB drive to create a system image. Apple's website provides instructions on how to do this. Or use a key combination at boot to install the latest operating system on your Mac via the internet.

I’m not impressed with Tahoe at all, they have ruined the Apple Music app. It’s a terrible UI and glitchy when trying to play music or edit metadata.
