Vegas Video - various options - which ones?

Im using Vegas Video to export re-edited vobs to vob, then convert using another program to MP4.

However, I'm not sure which De-interlace option to use and so if anyone could shed some light on which is better, that would be appreciated.

The options are
- None
- Blend fields
- Interpolate fields

For a while now I've been choosing None, as I read somewhere that Blending would actually make it worse. However, I've noticed my videos that I've captured from my DVI output (which is converted to S-Video) aren't that great.

Also, another option which i'm not sure about is under the 'Project Properties' there are various options for 'Motion-Blur Type'. The options are:

- Gaussian
- Pyramid
- Box
- Gaussian (asymmetric)
- Pyramid (asymmetric)
- Box (asymmetric)

What does this mean, and what would be the best option(s)?

The last option I want to ask about is 'Field Order'. The options are:

- None (progressive scan)
- Upper field first
- Lower field first

I need a 'laymans' explanation for all of the above!

I have no idea, it's trial and error, I've has whole videos look great apart from the transitions I added getting scanlines! I asked a whole bunch of people and selecting 'none' finally sorted out the problem and it seems to work most of the rest of the time.

I don't think that there is a general answer as these values describe different methods. I'd assume it depends on the source material.

ok - so any idea what i should be looking for in the source material to help me decide which option to use?

in vegas there is a folder icon in the properties window. it's next to where you choose project settings presets. click it, then choose the source file and chick apply. that should set all of your poject settings to those of the original video. as far as deintelacing in vegas. i think it's better to deinterlace in your mp4 encoder. if you have a choice, yadif 0 is the best deinterlacer. blend gives you ghosting and interpolate fields will give you artifacting and other distortions.
