Xtendamix BPM issues

I dislike Xtendamix's forum because... well.... nobody uses it.

So to the Xtendamix users out there i I have a question for you. Do you have issues with the BPM of tracks they put out. I find that almost every track they put out is .1 BPM faster than it should be. I have bought MP3 versions of tracks (house tracks) that I know are at 128. And yet the Xtendamix version is at 128.1

I'm just interested on why they do this. It has not been a problem HID mode on my cdj2000's allows me to dial the track in exactly. I'm just curious on why they do this, does anyone else on other video pools have any issues like this?

Most tracks are warped using Abelton to the exact bpm to get rid of the decimal point, but there are a few that are missed or don't need to be.

Ok so could it be a problem with serato rounding or displaying the bpm faster than it is? I find more tracks are .1 faster than are not. Again I'm not puttin gthese tracks into ableton myself I'm only going off what the CDJ's BPM display is.

I've noticed some random videos are even faster than that compared to the audio file I have.

One that pops up into my mind is that Double Dutch Bus

My 12" rip is 120 BPM, their video is 126

One of my Canadian friends has been bitching up a storm about the Double Dutch Bus video since it came out...in fact he won't shut up about it LOL.

Seriously, I can understand quantizing an intro and outro for an "extended" video, and of course anyone know that a remix-service (or just "remixed version" video will have heavily-manipulated audio....but something being presented as an original version should be just that. Certainly not just randomly sped up or with tempo variations removed.

All I'd expect with an "original" is for any breaks/skits to be removed, and audio replaced with the cleanest possible version (assuming for older stuff that audio originating on film or videotape is almost always going to need replacement).

I've mostly been using my Xtendamix Europe account to fill out my collection of oldies, and I haven't noticed any particularly jarring examples yet.

But I would say that for a Single version, pristine audio as per the CD master would ALWAYS be preferable to a warped version, regardless of any lack of quantisation or any negative effect on the video quality.

I'm a DJ first and foremost, audio quality is paramount.

Someone who is a video editor correct me if I'm wrong. But to put out a good "single" version of a video, you get the label to send you the video (which contains the audio) you throw away there audio and then purchase or acquire some lossless CD or better quality audio file and re sync the 2 together? Is that not what is done?

That's how I would do it.

But every now and then the audio and video don't line up. The decision now becomes whether to stretch/shrink the audio and get artifacts, or stretch/shrink the video and get dropped/duplicate frames....

No not for me. I just find almost every file is .1 faster. But one of these days I'm going to setup my rig at home and make a video on how i do everything. At that point i will see how many really are that fast.

I would say as a Video DJ I would rather the Video be edited. If the video is really that far off couldn't the video be recut like it is in remix videos to make everything line up.

I do enjoy Xtendamix's remix videos. I feel they do a good job of faithfully re cutting a video to line up with a remix. I really appreciate it. I dont want all this added junk in a video (even a remix) that wasn't in the original. Though I do have a problem with the remixes selected by Xtendamix. I don't like most of them, but thats personal opinion and I can't knock them for that.

The problem in this case is that the video isn't really that far off, but far off enough to lose sync by the midway point. We're talking over 4000 frames in a music video, but you may only need to adjust 20-30 frames to get the sync perfect. It's not a simple chop and move, it's a slow gradual stretch over the course of the whole song.

Some of us are pretty anal when it comes to frame rates. If I go to the trouble of writing scripts to drop duplicate frames and de-interlace, the last thing I want to do is mess up my final export frame rate by stretching/shrinking the video, thereby duplicating or dropping 20-30 frames randomly.

In this case I usually trust my DAW to do a good job of stretching the audio by 1-2 seconds.

So I would say, that "as a Video DJ", I would prefer that the audio be stretched a little if need be. My DAW key lock can't be any worse than Serato's...

Very good points. I have not got to the point where i want to start editing video's. And you nailed it with the key lock point.
